Refurb for locos at Toledo Zoo railroad

Toledo Zoo's Safari Railroad will feature three 'new' Chance Rides C.P. Huntington locomotives when it resumes regular operation this spring.

The Ohio, US attraction recently purchased one new locomotive from Kansas-based Chance Rides and - over a six month period - has refurbished two 2003-model locomotives that it already owned.

The refurbishment process for the locomotives took place over a six month period and involved a complete disassembly and rebuild to bring them to Chance's current production standards.

Each refurbished train received a new engine, transmission, axles and rebuilt gearboxes.

The entire body was sandblasted and repainted while the brass trim was stripped, polished and clear powder coated. All brake hardware was repainted and zinc plated.

Terry Giddeon, customer service for Chance Rides, said subsequently: "After the refurbishment you couldn't tell the difference between the old trains and the new one."
